“At the beginning of the 21st century, a major economic meltdown shook the world and shattered the common faith in government and the solvency of national banks. There was no disaster; no dust bowl, no shift in global weather that disrupted trade, no social uprising that devalued currency; just the greed, corruption, and abuse of public trust by bankers and investing firms across the globe. It is in memory of our lost years, and failed justice system that this statue salutes the bankers, traders, and government officials who lead us down and ripped us off.”
